A Fairview Park man was shot and killed by a police officer Monday evening after police were called to his home by the man's wife.

Police received a 911 call Monday at 6:21 p.m. from a home on West 204th Street. A woman said her husband was destroying items in the house. He also smashed his car into the garage and a side door, police said.

According to a police statement, the responding officer was met in the driveway by a man wielding two golf clubs. He reportedly approached the officer in a menacing manner.

The officer repeatedly ordered the male to drop the clubs. When he did not comply, the officer shot him three times.

The man, Scott Hanson, 43, was transported to Fairview General Hospital where he died at 8:35 p.m.

The officer, who was uninjured, was placed on paid administrative leave per department policy. Police say the incident continues to be investigated.
