Bay teen determined to bowl over painful disease
BAY VILLAGE — Joey Melenick, a seventh-grader at Bay Middle School, marked his 13th birthday by holding a fundraiser for his class at Bay Lanes. The benefit rasied money to combat Crohn’s Disease, a disroder of the digestive tract which Lelenick suffers from.

Financial pinch results in layoffs, demotions
FAIRVIEW PARK — Due to sudden cuts in city revenue, a reorganization at City Hall has been instituted by Mayor Eileen Patton. Three full-time employees and five part-time employees are being laid off to eliminate a $1.2 million budget deficit.

Regional dispatch center officially opens
phototWESTSHORE — Local leaders hailed the opening of the facility, which will dsipatch fire engines and ambulances in four cities, as an example of how communities can work together to offer improved services in a more efficient manner.

The two schools along with Avon Lake enter the SWC boys tennis season as the favorites. North Olmsted returns its entire line-up from a year ago.

Super Librarian Nancy Pearl on her way to Fairview
Nancy Pearl, author of the popular "Book Lust" series, appears April 10 at a special event at the Fairview Park Public Library. “My talk will be about the pleasures and perils of a life of reading,” Pearl told West Life.
