Health
& Human Services Secretary to appear
at Westlake's Church
On the Rise Saturday
WESTLAKE
Mike Leavitt, the U.S. Secretary of Health
and Human Services, will appear at Westlake's Church on the
Rise, 3550 Crocker Road, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to discuss Medicare's
new prescription drug coverage program. Eligible individuals have
to sign up by May 15, 2006 or they may have to pay a penalty. The
next opportunity to enroll is from Nov. 15, 2006 to Dec. 31, 2006.
A travelling Medicare bus which educates participants about the
new program will also be at the church. The entire program lasts
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Westlake
hosts Shred-It Day May 6
WESTLAKE Westlake residents are invited to
shred their personal documents on May 6, 2006, at the Westlake Center
for Community Services (formerly the Senior Center) located at 29694
Center Ridge Road at the corner of Center Ridge and Crocker Roads.
A shredding truck from Shred-it Mobile Shredding and Recycling (www.shredit.com)
will be available for free, quick and easy destruction and disposal
of documents from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Knoble
indicted, plans to resign
ROCY RIVER Mayor William Knoble was indicted
Thursday on two misdemeanor counts of improper use of a public office.
The mayor's brother and son had been hired to work at the Rocky
River Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Council adds lawyer to ranks
ROCKY RIVER City Council announced that attorney
Thomas Hunt, 36, will fill the vacancy to be created when Ward 1
Councilman Robert Frost’s leaves May 31.
Fairview
resident makes ‘Deal’
FAIRVIEW
PARK Allyson Thadeus-Zappe's recent appearance on the NBC
game show "Deal or No Deal" was the latest milestone in
what has been an extraordinary year for the 26-year-old. In January,
the cystic fibrosis patient successfully underwent a double lung
transplant.

Fun
run draws 400
The second annual St. Angela Merici Fun Run was held Saturday
in 50- degree sunny weather. Over 400 participants ran or walked
in the 5K or one-mile race to raise money for the Shapedown
program of Fairview Hospital, which fights childhood obesity.
Overall winner in the men’s division was Keith Burns of Minerva,
Ohio, with a time of 15:56. Jordan Sowecke of North Olmsted
won the women’s division with a time of 19:25. (Photo by Larry

favorite Pat Shepard turns fans into friends
The
musician has a large following of friends that attend his shows.
His goal is to make audience members feel as if they are also part
of that inner circle. Shepard, who will be playing at Brendan O'Neil's
in Westlake Friday night, often plays three or four hours straight
without a break.

is offering unpaid internships this summer in the following areas:

Editing

Media
West
Life covers the western suburbs of Cleveland, including Fairview
Park, North Olmsted, Westlake, Rocky River and Bay Village.
Interns
will be assigned news and feature articles for publication. Standing
as a college junior, senior or graduate student is required. Journalism
coursework and experience on a campus newspaper is preferred. Availability
Monday evening and/or Tuesday morning is preferred.
