Leaders wooing GOP convention
BAY VILLAGE — Mayor Debbie Sutherland, president of the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association, is leading efforts to convince the Rupublican Party to hold its 2008 nominating convention in Cleveland. The latest round of efforts began last week with a Aug. 9 breakfast at the City Club for party Chairman Ken Mehlman and will continue with visits by more GOP officials later this month.

Historical society gala highlights lakefront living
photoROCKY RIVER — The city is the only Westshore suburb with no permanent home for its historical society's vast collection of memorabilia. On Saturday, a $150 per-ticket gala, dubbed The Party at the Pointe, helped the organization begin raising $500,000 for a development and building fund.

Youth Challenge celebrates 30 years of caring
Mary Sue Tanis didn't plan the last 30 years. The founder and executive director of Youth Challenge had no real aspiration to create a groundbreaking organization to help disabled children.
It may have started simple with duck, duck, goose and finger paints, but evolved over the years, adding a board of directors and activities such as rock climbing.

Two-day festival showcases talents
of many Westshore musicians

The Green, a local quartet made up of graduates from North Ridgeville High School, will put on the first Green Festival, a two-day lineup of local bands, this weekend at No Excuses in North Olmsted.
