Leaders wooing GOP convention
BAY VILLAGE — Mayor Debbie Sutherland, president of the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers Association, is leading efforts to convince the Rupublican Party to hold its 2008 nominating convention in Cleveland. The latest round of efforts began last week with a Aug. 9 breakfast at the City Club for party Chairman Ken Mehlman and will continue with visits by more GOP officials later this month.

UMC church youth help still-struggling Katrina victims
WESTLAKE — Youth from Westlake United Methodist Church spent a week in Mississippi this summer helping rebuild houses which suffered flood damage from last year's hurricane.

Historical society gala highlights lakefront living
ROCKY RIVER — The city is the only Westshore suburb with no permanent home for its historical society's vast collection of memorabilia. On Saturday, a $150 per-ticket gala, dubbed The Party at the Pointe, helped the organization begin raising $500,000 for a development and building fund.
