NASA, Cleveland Clinic team up to help astronauts
WESTSHORE —
Trainers and coaches sometimes use the phrase ‘use it or lose it’ to refer to maintaining muscle strength. Well, it turns out that is true nowhere more than in space. Scientists at NASA’s Glenn Research Center and the Cleveland Clinic are working on ways to help astronauts in space exercise more effectively in space. Their research could also affect how diseases such as osteoporosis are treated here on Earth.
Levy back on ballot
NORTH OLMSTED — With one day to go before the filing deadline for November ballot issues, the school board Aug. 23 reversed a decision made only two days earlier and placed a proposed 6.5-mill operating levy on the November ballot.

Living on the edge
WESTSHORE — Some lakefront homes in Lakewood are losing anywhere from 6 inches to 12 inches of land annually from erosion. Besides creating environmental issues, erosion reduces the size of land and brings lakefront houses closer to the water.
