Space heater suspected as cause of blaze

WESTLAKE — Investigators believe a space heater likely caused a fire that killed two people in a Hilliard Boulevard home early Sunday morning. Witnesses said flames were shooting out the windows as high as 12 feet.

Teachers take pay freeze
More cuts planned if levy fails

photoNORTH OLMSTED — The teachers union agrees to a one-year wage freeze and will pay a portion of their health care premiums. However, district officials say they will still cut 30 to 50 jobs, the district sports programs, other extra-curricular activities, the summer enrichment program and administrative positions if the 6.5-mill levy does not pass in February.

Residents want recreation land
WESTLAKE — A group is petitioning City Council to take actions that will preserves the 42 acres on Bradley Road owned by the school district for recreational purposes. The city has contemplated purchasing or leasing the Bradley Road property for years to utilize for sports fields.
