Levy renewal goes to ballot
FAIRVIEW PARK — Voters will be asked to renew an existing emergency levy that funds school district operations at the March 4 election. School board members emphasized that the levy is not a tax increase and is thus consistent with the pledge they made to voters not to ask for new taxes for five years.

NORTH OLMSTED — In light of the fatal shooting at an Omaha mall last week, police and Westfield Great Northern Mall security officials described the training they periodically participate in order to respond to such crises.

Westlake couple takes pride in alpaca farm

Ohio leads the country in ownership of alpacas, llama-like animals native to South America. About 900 farms in the state are home to 18,000 alpacas. One owned by Westlake couple Paul and Ann Misterka, a 1 ˝ -year-old alpaca named Rumm Runner, won top honors at a recent statewide show.
Norfolk Southern official to speak on commuter rail
ROCKY RIVER —
Jim Klaiber, the company's manager of corporate affairs, will discuss the railroad's policy toward the development of passenger rail service on its rail lines at the next West Shore Corridor Stakeholders meeting Dec. 19 at the Rocky River Public Library. Backers of a commuter rail line seek to use Norfolk Southern's tracks for a possible commuter rail service.
