Firefighters
protest staffing changes
BAY VILLAGE Members of the Bay Village Firefighters
Association sent an open letter to the public criticizing Mayor Debbie
Sutherland’s decision to reduce the minimum staffing level from six
firefighters to five when a firefighter calls in sick. |

Arrests don’t indicate heroin ring
WESTLAKE School officials and leaders of Westlake
Parent Connection have scheduled a series of public meetings beginning
Feb. 19 to address the issue of drugs in the community. The meetings
follow the recent arrests of three Westlake High School students and
one parent in connection to drug activity. |

Lutheran dedicates middle school building
FAIRVIEW PARK Sixth, seventh and eighth-graders
at Messiah Lutheran School this week have a new environment to learn
in, one which will also give them a more distinct identity as middle
school students, school officials said.

Lady Pirate basketball team (19-1) accomplished something a long time
in the works. They got to celebrate a championship at home following
a 48-30 victory over Fairview High School Feb. 6.

witches dominate Playhouse Square in ‘Wicked’
A
whole new generation of theatergoers will gain a love of musicals
because of “Wicked,” playing at at Playhouse Square Center through March 9.
This rethinking of “The Wizard of Oz” has sent young people off
singing the praises of theater. West Life Theater critic Art Thomas
calles it a magical show.
