Rep. Dennis
J. Kucinich (D-OH) has announced plans for his annual Academy Day
to be held this Saturday May 17, 2008 in his Lakewood district office.
“Academy Day
is an opportunity for students to learn more about educational opportunities
available to them at the five U.S. service academies,” Congressman
Kucinich said. “We’ll have representatives from those academies
on hand to answer any questions from students as well as parents,
and to advise students of the materials they’ll need to accompany
the applications they submit this year.”
Kucinich said
representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine,
U.S. Military and Naval Academies will be available for individual
consultation with interested students and parents. Applications
for nomination will also be available. All academies except the
Coast Guard require congressional nomination.
Nomination applications
for classes beginning in July 2009 must be submitted to Congressman
Kucinich by October 15, 2008. Academy Day alerts students to what
is required of them when they apply for nomination. Students must
be high school graduates and between the ages of 17-23 by July 1,
2009 to be considered for nomination for classes starting in July
2009.
Academy Day
begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday May 17th at Congressman Kucinich’s
Lakewood office, 14400 Detroit Avenue. Students and parents unable
to attend Academy Day can receive information by writing Congressman
Kucinich’s district office at 14400 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio
44107, or calling 216-228-8850.
