The
Fairview Park City Schools Board of Education appointed Kevin Liptrap
as the new principal of Fairview High School at its May 6 meeting.
Liptrap has served as the high school’s assistant principal and
athletic director since 2006.
In March, the board voted not to renew the contract
of current principal Carey Willgren.
Willgren is a tenured employee of the district but
his future position with the district has not been resolved yet,
Superintendent Brion Deitsch said.
When contacted by West Life, Willgren declined to
comment on the matter. A 1976 graduate of Fairview High School,
Willgren served as principal there since August 2002.
Deitsch did not give any reason for the change in
leadership at the high school, saying it was a personnel matter.
The superintendent referred to a press release issued
by the district.
“I think it’s pretty self explanatory in the statement
that we put out, and we’re looking ahead to moving forward,” Deitsch
told West Life.
“We are looking forward to the new energy and direction
Kevin Liptrap will provide at FHS as principal,” Deitsch said in
the statement.
“This is another step in building on our past accomplishments
and to make the Fairview Park City Schools a district of excellence.”
Before coming to Fairview High School, Liptrap served
as district activities and athletic coordinator for the Bay Village
Schools since 1997. Liptrap received his undergraduate degree from
Radford University in Radford, Va., and his masters and principal certificate from
Old Dominion University and Baldwin Wallace.
“We [administration, staff and parents] are going
to work together to be bridge builders not blockers for the success
of our students,” Liptrap said in the district’s statement. “I am
going to challenge our teachers and students to uphold high expectations
that will represent our community in a first class manner. This
includes school hours and in the community when school is not in
session.”
District officials said that a new assistant principal
and athletic director will be named in June.
