A suspected bank robber died of gunshot wounds suffered in a shootout with police in Westlake Friday afternoon, officials from several Westshore cities said.

A Fairview Park police officer was shot in the foot and taken to Fairview Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening, numerous municipal sources said.

The suspect allegedly held up the National City Bank on Lorain Road in North Olmsted Friday afternoon around 3.

Police from North Olmsted, Fairview Park and Westlake pursued the suspect's car and cornered it near the intersection of Columbia and Westwood roads in Westlake where the shooting occurred. Law enforcement officials were processing the scene for evidence late Friday afternoon.

Officials have not released the names of the dead suspect or the injured officer.
