Manager Art welcomes guests to Famous Dave’s in North Olmsted.

“Smokin’ Good!”

That’s the claim to “Fame” that Famous Dave’s BBQ at 26410 Great Northern Shopping Center makes about its barbecue and judging by the list of awards the restaurant has piled up in the last six months it’s pretty hard to argue with.

The restaurant – located just off Lorain Road on the northwest side of Great Northern Shopping Center – was named “Cleveland’s Best BBQ” for 2008 on the Fox 8 “Hotlist.”  In February, the restaurant was named “Restaurant of the Year” at the Famous Dave’s Partners/Franchisee Conference beating out 174 other locations in 37 different states.  And just a couple of weeks ago Famous Dave’s won the title of “Best Ribs in America” at the Great American Rib Cookoff held in downtown Cleveland over Memorial Day weekend.

Specializing in authentic, hickory-smoked barbecue, Famous Dave’s in North Olmsted is the only Cleveland location of a national chain that has won nearly 400 awards nationally over the last 12 years for its signature St. Louis Style Ribs, 5 savory sauces, mouth-watering meats and homemade desserts.  The restaurant will celebrate its 5 year anniversary at the location this November and has become a staple of the Westside dining scene during that time with its wide array of barbecue, weekly special offerings and community involvement.

The family-friendly restaurant serves baby back ribs – available either with a honey-based Sweet & Zesty sauce or with a spicy Memphis-style dry rub – along with its signature St. Louis-style ribs.  Both types of ribs are coated with their own signature rub and smoked over hickory flames for more than 3 hours before being finished on the grill.  Both the Texas Beef Brisket and Georgia Chopped Pork are smoked for 10-12 hours over those same hickory flames and the restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads all with a unique barbecue twist.

The North Olmsted location offers its Famous Feast For Two for just $25.99 every Tuesday (regularly priced at $33.99).  Served on an upside-down trash can lid the Feast is famous from coast-to-coast for its heaping-helping of Dave’s Best BBQ.  A larger version – the All American BBQ Feast – feeds 4-5 people and is available for just $55.99.  The restaurant also draws a large crowd every Wednesday when it serves all of its draft beers for just $1 a pint and recently started “$3 Thursdays” when everything behind the bar is available for just $3.  The restaurant also has its own dedicated carryout area and offers Full Service Catering specializing in company picnics, family reunions, graduations and office parties.

The restaurant maintains a large presence in the local community hosting both Chamber of Commerce events as well as various fundraiser nights for local organizations.  Famous Dave’s donated more than $2,000 to local organizations over the first five months of this year and had 20 “teammates” take part in the “Nick Rauser Memorial Walk” this past weekend.  The staff is also donating a portion of its tipped income and wages earned this quarter to “John Owen’s Adventure” to help find a cure for Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.
