Catanza’s Barber Shop #2 gives guests the traditional barber shop experience with professional cuts and a friendly atmosphere in Westlake.

Locally owned Catanza’s Barber Shop is an Avon treasure. There, the tradition of caring and community is a big part of business. So when Bobby Catanza opened Catanza’s Barber Shop #2 in Westlake on June 1, locals knew the simple mantra of fast and friendly service would carry on.

Catanza has been perfecting his skills in the hair business since 1986 and says his favorite cut to give is a flattop. Why? Because it’s the hardest, he said.

The shop has a very friendly sports décor, including sports memorabilia and pictures of local sports players who have gone off to college. Along with two other locations, Catanza’s Barber Shop in Avon and Magic Shears (for men and women) in Westlake, the full-service shop always provides fast, friendly service to regulars and newcomers.

What makes Catanza’s shops special is that everybody knows everybody. Networking and friendship are important to the customers and staff members alike, which is evident by a “business board” full of business cards, and the friendly demeanor of everyone who walks in the door.

Catanza’s Barber Shop #2 offers men’s regular hair cuts, traditional tapers, square backs, styles, beard trims, face shaves with a straight razor, neck shaves, head shaves and men’s color. All colors are done by Angel.

At Catanza’s, the staff upholds the tradition of the art of barbering. “It’s an old time forgotten art,” said Catanza, who gets in on the action himself and gives haircuts. He is proud that his shop offers shaves with a straight razor, which has become somewhat of a lost art, but creates a sharper, crisper appearance, he said. Catanza’s Barber Shop was lucky enough to be featured on Robin Swoboda’s “That’s Life” last year about bringing back this “special shave.”

As always, the hardworking hair professionals at Catanza’s shops welcome walk-ins. All team members are experienced graduates of Allstate Barber College, Catanza said.

As a Cleveland native, Catanza got his inspiration from his uncle’s barbershop in Mayfield (Ferrito’s Barber Shop). He was also inspired by his grandfather and father who helped direct the shop. He remembers getting cuts as a child and how impressed he was that everyone knew everything about what was going on with each other’s lives, families and neighborhoods.

Shop hours are Monday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The shop is closed Sunday. Check out the coupon for $2 off cuts.
