It’s
very big, very fast and very, very red. Our red candy metallic 2010
Lincoln MKS Ecoboost came to us loaded for performance, comfort
and with just about everything to make life on the road a real pleasure.
Joining this flagship S sedan are the MKX sport utility
vehicle and MKZ mid-size sedan, leaving only the old-school Town
Car to do battle with other premium large cars.
Featuring a strong, 3.7-liter, 355-horsepower, twin
turbocharged V-6 Ecoboost Duratec engine and attached to a six-speed
automatic with select shift paddles on the steering wheel plus all-wheel-drive,
this Lincoln puts a new spin on traditional American luxury cars.
The starting price is $47,460 and equipped with another
$9,000 of desirable options for convenience, safety and comfort.
The matching interior is called sienna flagship leather,
and it includes the leather-wrapped steering wheel, the seats and
the top of the dashboard and doors. Seats are heated and cooled
and provide generous room both front and rear, with nice contours
for keeping you snug. There are also two seat memory settings, a
power tilt and telescope steering wheel and push button starting.
I found the steering, handling and braking to be first
class for such a large car and almost could pass as a sports sedan.
But cornering does have a fair amount of lean and the turning circle
prevents that kind of agility.
Acceleration has great amounts of torque so you get
going in a real hurry.
The ride is firm, supple, quiet and just the ticket
for impressing your passengers.
The navigation system, which comes as part of the
ultimate package for $3,500, can be voice actuated and includes
Sirius travel link, a handy feature that delivers real-time traffic
information. The rearview camera is invaluable, and the sync voice-activated
system allows voice control for cellular telephones and MP3 players.
Yet another plus is the front-obstacle detection,
making for even safer driving. And, can you believe it even has
active park assist for another $535 and adaptive cruise control
that keeps you at a safe distance from the cars in front?
So, I think you get the picture. I’m sure that if
you’re in the market for a fine luxury sedan, take a good look at
the Lincoln MKS.
