Avon Planning Commission approves Bendix site plans

The Avon Planning Commission has approved final site plans for Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems

The plans were approved by Mayor Bryan Jensen, City Councilman Scott Radcliffe and Planning Commission Chairperson Carolyn Witherspoon. Commission members Bill Fitch and Jim Malloy were absent from the meeting Thursday.

A start date for construction on the 133,500-square-foot building has not been determined.

City Council unanimously voted last month to provide a 21-year, $17 million tax break package for the global company to relocate its national headquarters from Elyria to Avon.

City and school officials agreed to take less in real estate taxes to lure Bendix and 550 employees from Elyria.

Virus no match for Rocky River school spirit

School buildings are closed, but the Rocky River school district still has spirit. The district is hosting a virtual spirit week for students while they stay at home and take classes online during the coronavirus pandemic.

The event began Monday and will continue the rest of this week with each day having a different theme, such as Superhero Day and Crazy Hair Day. Students are being asked to share photos on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #RrSchoolsVirtualSpiritWeek.

Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered schools statewide to stay closed through April 3 to help stop the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). He has since acknowledged that he might extend the order for the rest of the school year.
