Speeding into trouble

A 35-year-old Eastlake man was arrested June 13 for possession of marijuana and speeding after police stopped him in a westbound lane of Interstate 90. Police said they found the marijuana after checking the man’s car.

Computer parts not for sale

A 21-year-old Fairview Park man was arrested June 16 for theft after Meijer workers said he took computer accessories.

Can’t run off

A 26-year-old Berlin Heights man was arrested June 16 for theft after Kohl’s workers said he took $395 in clothing and tried to run away. He was caught by security.

BAY VILLAGE

Cigarettes up in smoke

A woman took two cartons of cigarettes from the Columbia Road Speedway June 8. The woman was described as a heavy-set black woman wearing a face mask and gray hoodie, who asked the clerk for two cartons of cigarettes, then asked for another one after the clerk placed the first two on the counter. When the clerk turned to get a third carton, the woman grabbed the first two, ran out to a waiting car and drove off, police said.

Backpack taken

A Bruce Road homeowner reported on June 12 that a man took a red backpack from the homeowner’s unlocked car parked in his driveway. The man said he found the thief, whom he described as a slim white male, about 6 foot 5 inches and wearing a white T-shirt, going through the car before running off when the man tried to stop him.

Purse stolen

A woman said four men on bicycles snatched her purse April 6 and left while she was at the park.

A man found naked in the Edgewater Beach parking lot April 7 was cited for public indecency.

So many puns ...

A car was damaged April 13 after high winds blew a Porta Potty into a parked car. No injuries were reported.

A man was cited April 13 for not leaving the park when told, being in the park after hours and drinking in his car.

The clubhouse manager at the Big Met golf course reported unauthorized golfers on the links April 1.

Bicycle stolen

A man said his bicycle was stolen while he was in the Rocky River Nature Center April 1.

Wallet stolen

A man’s wallet was stolen from his unlocked car while he was at the marina April 1.

Two-vehicle accident

No injuries were reported after a car hit a Hummer in the rear while both were driving in the park April 1.

False alarm

Officers checking an alarm at the Rocky River Nature Center April 6 found nothing wrong.

Road still closed

Police said a “Road Closed” sign near Memorial Field was vandalized April 9. Another one near Old Lorain Road hill was found vandalized April 10.

Multiple offenses

A man was cited for possession of marijuana, driving on a closed roadway and not staying in marked lanes after police stopped his car April 10.

FAIRVIEW PARK

Money order scam

A Fairview Park woman said June 8 she was notified someone had made a $1,600 money order using his personal information at a Food Lion in Columbia, South Carolina. The victim had not authorized any order, she said.

Stop in the name of the law

A 51-year-old Rocky River man who, while apparently drunk, threatened to burn down the homes of the “snitches” who gave police his name, was arrested at 2:02 a.m. June 11 for drunk driving. The witnesses said he drove his car over a Wooster Road stop sign before driving away. Using an address from a license plate number the witnesses gave them, officers said they found the man two streets away. Officers said he smelled of alcohol and could not stand without support, prompting his arrest.

Drug, weapons arrest

A 21-year-old Cleveland man was arrested June 13 for weapons and drug offenses after police stopped his car on Westwood Avenue for having expired license plates. The man had pulled into a driveway to avoid police. Officers noted a strong smell of marijuana in the car, searched, and found drugs. The man subsequently revealed he had a loaded shotgun in the trunk, which police retrieved.

LAKEWOOD

Digging them up

June 4 security video showed a car and an unknown man digging up three rose bushes planted outside Edgewater Drive apartments.

Out of control

A 27-year-old Lakewood man was arrested June 8 for disorderly conduct while intoxicated after police investigated a 3:50 a.m. report of a man acting strangely on Sloane Avenue.

Disorderly conduct

A 40-year-old Lakewood man was arrested June 9 for disorderly conduct while intoxicated when police investigated reports of a man out of control on Lincoln Avenue.

NORTH OLMSTED

No texting

A 41-year-old Cleveland man was arrested at 2:39 a.m. June 11 for drunk driving, texting while driving and traffic offenses after police stopped his car on Coe Road. The man was trying to text while also driving erratically, police said. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.

Can’t sleep there

A 37-year-old Westlake man was arrested at 3:42 a.m. June 14 for drunk driving and improper handling of a gun after police investigated a man passed out behind the steering wheel of a car parked in the middle of Clague Road near Lorain Road. He failed field sobriety tests. Officers searched the car and found a loaded handgun, police said.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE

Weaving into trouble

A 30-year-old North Ridgeville woman was arrested at 6 a.m. June 12 for drunk driving after police said they stopped a car reported weaving on Center Ridge Road.

Marijuana, speeding arrest

A 64-year-old Novelty, Ohio, woman was arrested June 14 for possession of marijuana and speeding after police stopped her car on Jaycox Road for speeding.

Ran off

Workers at the BP in the 32300 block of Lorain Road said an unknown man stole an assortment of items June 16 from the business. He ran off before workers could stop him.

Speeding leads to arrest

A 58-year-old North Ridgeville man was arrested June 15 for drunk driving and speeding after police stopped his car on Sugar Ridge Road. He failed field sobriety tests.

ROCKY RIVER

Gassed up

A 31-year-old Cleveland woman was arrested at 3 a.m. June 9 after police investigated a tip about a drunk driver at the Sun Mart gas station on Lake Road. After a responding officer said the woman’s car drove off from the station, the driver committed several traffic violations before being stopped and arrested, police said.

Election issues

A Kings Mill Run woman said overnight June 12 someone spray painted X’s on the Trump 2020 flag in her yard.

Hard to miss

A 35-year-old Rocky River man was arrested June 13 for attempted theft after people saw him trying to break into two cars in the Northview Road area. The first person said that when confronted, the thief took off his shirt and offered to fight before running off. As police checked the area, a second person called in, saying a man with no shirt was trying to break into another car. Responding officers arrested the man with no problem.

Spittin’ mad customer

An angry customer and his girlfriend were told they are no longer welcome at Herb’s Tavern after the man spit at a bartender and shoved a chair at him at 7:15 p.m., June 13. Workers said the man became angry when the bartender said something to the girlfriend while trying to take their order, prompting a verbal exchange, before the man spat and shoved the chair at the bartender. The bartender shoved it back, told them they should leave and called police, who also told them to leave.

SHEFFIELD LAKE

No license to drive

A 24-year-old Amherst man was arrested June 14 for driving on a suspended license after police stopped his car on Abbe Road and a records check showed the suspended license.

Cash stolen from home

An East River Road man said June 9 someone broke into his home and took an undisclosed amount of money.

WESTLAKE

Break-in through window

An undetermined amount of alcohol and cigarettes was stolen overnight June 11 after a side window at Bradley Beverage on Bradley Road was broken.

Two arrested after traffic stop

A 25-year-old Parma man and a 26-year-old Elyria woman are facing potential drug charges after Westlake police arrested them June 13. Police stopped the man’s car for traffic violations on Interstate 90 near the Columbia Road exit. In addition to finding drugs, police discovered the man was wanted by Parma police for traffic violations and the woman by Avon police for unspecified offenses.

Not for rent

Police, a real estate agent and a would-be renter found out June 17 that a Holly Lane home advertised for rent on Craigslist was not for rent. A potential renter went to the home and was told it’s not available.

He didn’t file it

A Westlake man said June 17 someone filed for unemployment benefits earlier in the month using his personal information. His employer had been notified, and in turn alerted him to the problem.

Sexual assault suspect arrested

A 44-year-old Cleveland man wanted by Cleveland police for sexually assaulting a child was arrested and turned over to Cleveland officers June 18 Police spotted him at the Super 8 Motel on Sperry Drive and notified their Cleveland counterparts.
