Walking the paths behind Bay Village's Lake Erie Nature & Science Center on Saturday, Nov. 9, a gaggle of 29 Girl Scouts from five West Side troops learned about the wonders found hidden-in-plain-sight on a crisp fall day. "What about your five senses?" asked Justin Willard, a center educator/program specialist. "What do you smell? What do you see?" The girls, working to get their Outdoor Art Creator Badge, spotted a Barred Owl in the treetops and hear some crows cawing in the distance. Willard showed Mary Hartgras, 9, of Parma, and Isabelle Rose, 9, also of Parma, some Honey Locust seed pods. They smelled, the girls said, like old bananas. The girls later created artwork from leaves.
