Holiday dining events help add sparkle to the season

Bistro 83 is hosting its first annual wine and beer holiday event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Mingle with wine and beer enthusiasts, and enjoy an afternoon of tasting and an hors d’oeuvre buffet. Talk to wine specialists and increase your knowledge by learning about wine aromas, complexities and origins. The tasting features 14 different wines and eight beers. The $40 admission includes 12 tasting tickets, with an option to purchase more at the event.

Chez Francois is featuring its 12th annual truffle dinner through Nov. 29. The meal begins with scrambled Rose Acre Farms brown eggs seasoned with truffle butter and garnished with black truffles, followed by wild mushroom and truffle cappuccino with steamed cream. Maine sea scallops and truffles are baked in puff pastry, and egg fettuccine is topped with shaved white truffles. Entrees are wild mushroom and truffle consomme with duck confit and puff pastry, and roast tenderloin of veal with white and black truffle risotto. Dessert is white truffle ice cream and truffle honey. The cost for the dinner is $150 a person, plus tax and tip. Seating is open with no starting time, but reservations are required in advance. The Ohio City Holiday Hop runs from 4 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 4. Board Lolly the Trolley for shopping stops at Market District and Hingetown businesses. There will be Christmas tree sales and live music in Market Square Park. Great Lakes Brewing Co. is serving mulled Christmas Ale on the patio. Add some sparkle to your holiday season by attending the sparkling wine dinner at 87 West at Crocker Park in Westlake at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 9.

An appetizer of spicy tuna roll is accompanied by Valdo Prosecco Brut from Italy. Poached egg with shaved smoked salmon over toast will be served with Mirabelle Sparkling Brut from California. A salad of arugula, fennel and citrus with beet and goat cheese crostini will be complemented by Schramsberg Blanc de Noir from California. The entree is beef tenderloin pho, with Louis Roederer Brut Premier Champagne of Reims, France. Dessert is homemade strawberry ice cream and aged balsamic over a fudge brownie. The meal concludes with a tasting of Condorniu Anna de Condorniu Rose Cava from Spain. The cost for the meal is $49.95 per person. Reservations are required. Call 440-250-2334.
