Damages have been estimated by the North Ridgeville Fire Department to be $7,000 to contents and $10,000 to the structure for a garage at 36231 Westwood Drive that caught fire in the early hours this morning.
A press release issued by the fire department at 2:30 a.m. today states the fire, reported at 1:18 a.m., originated in the detached, two-car garage on the west side of the house “with heavy smoke and fire showing” upon arrival at the scene.
“Initial crew made entry through main door and extinguished the fire,” the release said. “Fire contained to one side of the garage, and heavy smoke, fire and water damage noted to contents.”
No injuries to emergency personnel or residents were reported. The homeowners are Richard and Misty McKelvey. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
An explosion and fire in a garage occurred in North Ridgeville just last week, as the owner of that home on Eastview Avenue suspected a gas line leak in a motorcycle may have led to the blaze. That garage was attached to the home, which sustained major damage.
