The 2023 Regional Scholastic Art competition that was announced early this year recognized 73 works submitted by Avon High School students, a new record for the school’s art department. Ten works submitted by the students received Gold Keys, the highest honor; 23 won Silver Keys and 40 works received honorable mentions.Â
Of the show’s five American Vision (best in show) honors, junior Isabella Keller won in the drawing and illustration category, making her a candidate for the national American Visions Medal, which will be awarded in June. The other Gold Key winners will also compete at the national level.
The other Gold Key winners are: Yuxin Jiang, Samantha Keressi, Amy Klimkowsky, Elena Ko, Isabella Lane, Moira Majercak, Marissa Poore, Victoria Sidoti and Josh Stitchick.
The results reflect well on Avon High School art teachers Karen Busch, Catherine McDaniel and Maria Petrulis.
Avon Middle School art students also received several honors in the Regional Scholastic Art Show. Eighth grader Celeste Gorski won a Silver Key, and four other students won honorable mentions. Their art teachers are Stacy Cislo and John Yagoda.
