The Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Club is hosting its first-ever Great Pizza Bake-off in Avon from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The event takes place in the commons of Avon High School, 35573 Detroit Road, prior to the school’s popular jazz fusion concert. The Rotary Club has held eight other Pizza Bake-off events, but all of them have been at Avon Lake High School. More than 800 people showed up at the last bake-off, to enjoy all-you-can-eat pizza and vote for their favorites.
Pizza vendors participating in Thursday’s event include Antonio’s Pizza, Avon; Cici’s Pizza, Avon; Coleone’s Pizza, Avon; Costco, Avon; Domino’s Pizza, Sheffield Village; Marco’s Pizza, Sheffield Village; Romeo’s Pizza, Avon Lake; Whistler’s Wood-Fired Pizza, Avon; and Zeppe’s Pizza, Avon. In addition to sampling pizza supplied by these establishments, diners will also have the opportunity to “Putt Out Polio.” To raise funds for polio prevention, a major Rotary International initiative, Northcoast Interact Club members from Brookside High School will manage the putting green. Interact is a Rotary-sponsored youth club focused on service projects.
Tickets to the Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Club Great Pizza Bake-off are available at the door. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age. Proceeds help the Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Foundation provide scholarships to graduating seniors and support youth initiatives in Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield Lake and Sheffield Village.
