Westshore residents found ways to honor those who gave their lives for their country this Memorial Day, including placing flags on the graves of veterans from the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and the two World Wars in Lakeside Cemetery in Bay Village. It is especially significant to place flags near the graves of Civil War soldiers. Memorial Day-type remembrances began in 1866, a year after the Civil War’s end.
