The Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run takes place beginning at 8:30 a.m. June 21. On that Monday, police officers from Avon, Avon Lake, North Ridgeville and many other law enforcement agencies from throughout Lorain and Cuyahoga counties will run to raise awareness – and funds – for Special Olympics.

Those wanting to watch the run and offer their support may line the route, which begins at the old Avon Police Department and goes south through Avon via Stoney Ridge Road. Continuing south, runners will proceed to the Ohio State Highway Patrol post on Cletus Drive in Elyria.

Tax-deductible donations may be made by sending in or dropping off checks, made payable to “Special Olympics Ohio,” at:

1) North Ridgeville Police Department, Attn.: Sgt. Vince Abt or Patrolman Josh Riley, 7307 Avon Belden Road, North Ridgeville 44039

2) Avon Lake Police Department, Attn.: Lt. Duane Streator, 32855 Walker Road, Avon Lake 44012

3) Avon Police Department, Attn.: Patrolman George Ruple, 36185 Detroit Road, Avon 44011
