North Ridgeville Mayor Kevin Corcoran gives the floor, so to speak, the evening of July 16 to Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Fourgerousse so he can cut the last piece of ceremonial red ribbon and open the new $148,000 Heart and Sole Fitness Trail at the city’s Shady Ridge Complex, 37077 Shady Drive. After the brief opening ceremony, Corcoran joined Heart and Sole co-facilitators Jillian Cremona, left, and Erin Murphy, who also is public information officer for Lorain County Public Health, around the sign marking the spot of the celebration. Now looping around the city complex, the trail project started in 2015. The 6-foot-wide, ¾-mile asphalt track was built in three phases. Heart and Sole is a community fitness group that donated $15,000 to help complete the final leg of the trail and won naming rights for it. The city also received a $67,000 Ohio Department of Natural Resources grant to aid in the project. The trail is open for walking and biking. No motors are allowed.
