Two car dealerships may open their doors in Avon as soon as next spring.

At a July 6 meeting, Avon Planning Commission members approved the site plans and lot splits for a Joyce Buick GMC dealership and a Joe Firment Chevrolet dealership to be built on the south side of Chester Road just east of The Great Escape.

The Joyce Buick GMC will be built on approximately 6.2 acres and has been seven to eight years in the making, according to Planning Coordinator Jim Piazza.

The Joe Firment Chevrolet dealership will be built on 9.4 acres.

Fred Schirmer of Schirmer Construction, who represented both dealerships at the meeting, said the Joe Firment dealership would be “a little bit larger building, a little bit more land.”

Planning Commission members also recommended to council for approval a special use permit for both of the dealerships to have 4,000-gallon double-wall, used-oil storage tanks to generate heat for the buildings.

Avon City Council members approved ordinances at the Monday night regular meeting allowing the special use permits.

“We are shooting for May of next year,” Schirmer said of the goal for an opening date for both dealerships during the July 6 Planning Commission meeting.
