I-90 accident prompts arrest
A 22-year-old Amherst man was arrested Feb. 24 for driving under the influence after police investigated a 5:42 p.m. call about an accident on Interstate 90. The driver went off the road after losing control of the car.
Driver injured after car hits pole
A 37-year-old Avon Lake man was treated for injuries and arrested Feb. 27 for traffic and drug-related offenses and weaving after police stopped the car he was driving on Center Road at 11:23 a.m. when it went across the road and hit a pole.
Erratic driving prompts arrest
A 34-year-old Lorain man was arrested at 9:42 p.m. March 1 after police stopped the car he was driving on Colorado Avenue because it was being driven erratically.
Car stolen from home
A Norman Avenue man said Feb. 22 that his car was taken from his home during the early morning hours.
An Avon Lake man said Feb. 23 someone used his personal information to get a driver’s license, which was then used as an ID to try to get a job in Massachusetts late last year.
Credit report shows fraud
An Avon Lake woman said Feb. 25 that a review of her credit report showed someone used her personal information to get a credit card in her name in November.
Blue about graffiti
A Sunset Road man said someone wrote illegible graffiti in blue spray paint on the trunk of his car between Feb. 21 and 25 while it was parked at his home.
Man damages park’s bathroom doors
A 63-year-old Avon Lake man was arrested Feb. 27 after he grew angry and damaged the bathroom doors at Walker Road Park. Police didn’t know the reason for his outburst. No other damage was found.
Driver flees traffic stop
A Lorain man drove off after police stopped his car about noon March 1 on Electric Boulevard and discovered that he was wanted for driving on a suspended license. Police said they were getting warrants for him and that they planned to file charges for fleeing, disobeying an officer, going through a stop sign and speeding.
Angela Lane break-in thwarted
Police arrested a 32-year-old Avon Lake man for disorderly conduct for trying to pry open the door of an Angela Lane man’s home at 9:36 p.m. March 1.
Running through the Junction
Officers investigated a report at 9:10 a.m. Feb. 27 of a suspicious group of people running around the Dover Junction Plaza in dark clothing. Police found it was a running group that parks in the lot before exercising and then getting coffee.
Come to a complete stop
Police gave instructions on proper stopping and warnings to several drivers after getting several calls the morning of Feb. 28 about cars not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign at Douglas and East Oviatt roads.
A 40-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested for drunk driving at 11:39 p.m. Feb. 28 after police stopped the car he was driving on Wolf Road for a traffic violation. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.
Under the influence
A 29-year-old Cleveland man was arrested at 12:05 a.m. Feb. 29 for driving under the influence after police stopped the car he was driving at Wolf and Clague roads for a traffic violation.
Storage locker break-in
A woman who lives at the Fairview Village Apartments on Lorain Road said several pieces of antique china and stereo equipment were stolen from her storage locker. Her son discovered the theft Feb. 25. The locker had not been checked since mid-January.
Man arrested at Kohl’s
A 35-year-old Cleveland man was arrested Feb. 26 for theft after Kohl’s security said he took $105 in clothing at 6:40 p.m., then tried to drive away. However, police stopped the car and found the clothing hidden in his hoodie. Security said another man was with him, but that man saw police arrive, dumped the clothes he had in the store and fled.
A Fairview woman was arrested Feb. 28 for disorderly conduct while intoxicated after police checked a 5:35 a.m. call about a woman who had been drinking refusing to leave a Marleen Drive home. Investigating officers said they found the woman screaming hysterically into a phone, adding that it took several minutes for her to come outside when asked. When she continued her angry verbal tirade, police arrested her.
A Fairview woman said her wallet was taken while she was shopping Feb. 28 at Giant Eagle. She thought it dropped from the reusable bag she took to the store, but when she retraced her steps, she couldn't find it.
A Woodward Avenue man said a saw and pressure gauge were stolen from his home sometime Feb. 21.
Out of control
A 24-year-old Lakewood man was arrested Feb. 22 for disorderly conduct after police investigated a 3:22 a.m. report of a Kenilworth Avenue man out of control.
Under the influence
A 44-year-old Cleveland woman was arrested Feb. 25 for driving under the influence after police stopped the car she was driving on Sloane Avenue at 11:33 p.m. for being driven erratically.
Car broken into
An Edgewater Drive man said Feb. 26 someone broke into his parked car during the night. He was checking to see what was missing.
Gaming system stolen
A Clifton Boulevard woman said her son’s computer game system was stolen during the day Feb. 26 while friends and relatives visited.
A 32-year-old Lakewood man was arrested at 8 p.m. Feb. 29 for drunk driving after police stopped the car he was driving on Lakewood Heights Boulevard for being driven erratically.
Pantless driver arrested
A 30-year-old Brook Park man was arrested Feb. 25 for driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and related offenses after police checked a 12:57 a.m. report of a car going off the road while driving east on Interstate 480 near the Stearns Road exit.
Responding officers said they found a disoriented man walking by a car with no pants on. After he was checked by paramedics for possible injuries, the man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, failure to control and related offenses, police said.
Lights out leads to trouble
A36-year-old North Olmsted woman was arrested at 1:50 a.m. Feb. 25 for driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and traffic offenses after police stopped the car she was driving on Lorain Road because the headlights were off. Police said they also found she was wanted by Bedford Heights police for theft.
Driver takes truck for a swim
A 30-year-old Berea woman was arrested on Feb. 26 for driving under the influence and failure to control after officers investigated a report at 11:26 p.m. of a truck with its front tires in the shallow end of a swimming pool at the Kings Path Condominiums on Lorain Road. The truck had gone off the road and through a fence encircling the pool. The woman was not injured, police said.
Bad behavior at hotel
A 43-year-old Hebron, Ohio, man was arrested March 1 for disorderly conduct while intoxicated after police investigated a 12:09 p.m. report of a man arguing with staff at the Radisson Hotel and behaving badly.
Drinking while driving
A 40-year-old North Ridgeville man was cited Feb. 18 for having an open container in a car after a driver called police at 2:57 p.m. and said another driver on Chestnut Ridge Road was drinking a beer while driving.
Credit card used illegally
A Cleveland woman called police Feb. 21 to say that someone had used her credit card information to buy merchandise at the Sheetz on Lorain Road earlier in the month.
Speeding into trouble
A 28-year-old North Ridgeville woman was arrested Feb. 22 for drunk driving and speeding after police stopped the car she was driving on Jaycox Road at 2:10 a.m. for speeding.
Asleep at Speedway
A 37-year-old Rocky River woman was arrested Feb. 23 for driving under the influence after police checked a 9:39 a.m. report of a woman asleep behind the wheel of a car stopped at the Speedway on Lorain Road.
Slurred speech was clue
A 48-year-old Cleveland man was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Feb. 24 for drunk driving, having an open container and driving on a suspended license. Police said they saw the car stopped at Dorothy Avenue and Wooster Road with steamed-up windows. The driver had slurred speech and an open container of beer in the console. He was arrested after failing sobriety tests.
Booked at the library
A 41-year-old Rocky River man was arrested at 2:25 p.m. Feb. 19 for trespassing at the Rocky River Library after workers called police noting he had been given a no-trespass warning in September. Police also found he was wanted by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department for a fishing license violation.
Police are investigating a Feb. 29 incident in which a clerk at the UPS store on Detroit Road said an upset customer threatened him while leaving the store. The man came in because of a postage problem with a package, then grew upset, police said.
Energy drinks taken
A 33-year-old Elyria man was arrested Feb. 26 for theft after Discount Drug Mart workers said he took assorted beverages at 6:07 p.m. and left the store. Police said they found him a few minutes later walking on Detroit Road near the store.
A Sheffield Village woman said Feb. 27 someone used her son’s personal information to buy $346 in services from Verizon earlier that month.
Phony federal officer scam failed
A Westlake man told police March 5 that a man who claimed to be a U.S. Marshal said there was a warrant in Texas for his arrest on drug-trafficking charges. The fake marshal said the man had to withdraw cash from his personal account and buy gift cards to clear up the warrant. When the man got the gift cards, he realized it was a scam and contacted the police.
Man loses $5,000 in gift card scam
A Westlake resident reported March 4 that a caller named Jordan Wilson convinced him to buy $5,000 in gift cards to pay for what the scammer said was a compromised computer. Police reminded people to not give out personal information to questionable callers and that government agencies don’t take payments in gift cards.
Car hits utility pole; driver arrested
A 51-year-old Cleveland woman was arrested Feb. 28 for drunk driving and failure to maintain control after her car hit a utility pole on Hilliard Boulevard at 4 p.m. The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police said she admitted to drinking before the accident.
Crash under investigation
A 53-year-old Cleveland man was treated at UH St. John Medical Center in Westlake for injuries he suffered in a head-on accident on Clague Road at 6:30 p.m. March 1. Police said the man was driving on a suspended license and had a warrant for his arrest from the Linndale police. Alcohol played a role in the accident, police said. The other driver was treated for minor injuries.
Amazon account compromised
A Westlake woman said March 2 someone in Glen Allen, Virginia, used her Amazon account to buy a Nintendo Switch. She also said that there was an unsuccessful attempt by someone in Medina to use her account to buy a Razor scooter.
