Sheffield Village Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to select a resident to fill the council seat of Jean Ackerman, who resigned unexpectedly July 22. The meeting will be held in council chambers, 4340 Colorado Ave.

The application deadline was Monday, Aug. 12. Mayor John Hunter said three applications had been received as of Aug. 7. To qualify, an individual must be a registered voter and a resident of Sheffield Village for at least one year.

The person who is selected will fill out the remaining two years of Ackerman’s term and be paid $4,800 annually. Ackerman was elected in 2005 and serving fourth term in council at the time of her resignation.

Council had planned a summer recess following the July 22 meeting. It was not scheduled to meet again until early September. However, the village charter requires that council name a replacement within 30 days following a resignation. Had council not met within that time frame, the mayor would have made the appointment.
