The VA’s outpatient clinic will remain in Sheffield Village through 2039 as part of Carnegie Management’s agreement to build a larger facility next to the existing outpatient clinic on Abbe Road.

SHEFFIELD VILLAGE - The Lorain County VA Outpatient Clinic will remain in Sheffield Village, but move into a newly built 25,000-square-foot facility at 5329 N. Abbe Road, next door to the current clinic.

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Aug. 1 it had signed a $20 million, 20-year lease agreement with Westlake-based Carnegie Management and Development. The company, which owns the facility currently used for the outpatient clinic, purchased the property next door two years ago, anticipating it would compete for the permanent facility designation.

When it’s completed in December 2020, radiology services will be added to the array of primary medical, mental health and specialty services such as women’s health, podiatry and physical therapy already being offered to the 7,800 veterans the clinic serves.

The clinic moved to Sheffield Village in 2016 from the former St Joseph Hospital in Lorain, which had infrastructure issues. At the time, VA officials said they would seek a permanent location for the clinic. According to Sheffield Village Mayor John Hunter, the VA reviewed a number of applications from communities across Lorain County while making its determination. Hunter said he believed the location in the village was the best choice due to its central location, proximity to highways and plentiful restaurant and shopping conveniences.
