Westlake Law Director Michael Maloney will seek re-election for his second term and is running unopposed. Here is his position:

Salary: $93,500.

Age: 60

Elected Experience: I am finishing my first term as law director. I have not held a prior elected office.

Employment: 2018-present: Law Director for the City of Westlake

What do you see as the most important issue facing your city/district?

Safety. We had too many car break-ins and car thefts last year. Although this

happened all over the west side, I do not want it to continue in Westlake. A big reason people live in Westlake is because it is safe. We need to keep it that way. Unfortunately, it is too easy for thieves. Believe it or not, many residents do not lock their cars, or leave keys inside cars. We, also, have had ongoing trouble at some of our hotels. It became worse during the COVID-19 epidemic, as rooms became very cheap to rent.

What will you be doing to address this issue if elected?

Work closely with the police to improve detection and prevention. I am very supportive of more security cameras on public streets and in public places. The Westlake Police and I will, also, keep up communications and programs reminding residents to do simple things such as locking their cars and installing home video security systems. As far as the hotel trouble spots, I am weighing legal options, including nuisance actions in court.
