A Cleveland woman, who initially gave her address as North Ridgeville, was sentenced to nine years in prison on Monday for hitting four people and two dogs in three separate hit-and-runs in Westlake and Bay Village in April 2020.
Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Shaughnessy also ordered Shayla Harris, 25, to be on probation for five years after she is released. Harris pleaded guilty last month to two counts of felonious assault, two counts of injuring animals and two counts of attempted murder.
On April 1, 2020, Harris is accused of driving into a 56-year-old Bay Village man and his dog. On April 4, 2020, police said Harris struck a 22-year-old woman getting her mail on Caroline Circle in Westlake.
While on scene of the second incident, police were able to get a description of the car and spotted it in the area of Dover Center and Dominion roads. The driver, Shayla Harris, said the damage to her car was from hitting a deer. While in custody, Harris also apparently admitted to hitting a fourth person, the 56 year old.
Also in court, one of the victims alleged that threats were made against her and her unborn child by Harris via social media. Those instances are being investigated and more charges could follow pending the outcome of the investigation.
