Kindergarten students at the Early Childhood Learning Center raised more than $2,500 for the Pennies for Patients initiative. This money raised will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a company in Independence. ECLC-K Paraprofessional, Elysia Tirado, helped head the fundraising efforts. She said the campaign had a goal of raising $1,500 and ran for three weeks, ending Feb. 23. Students could bring in donations to put in their own change boxes and people were also able to donate online. Money was also raised at special events, such as the Valentine’s Day event where parents could purchase a $2 carnation for their children and Stuck for a Buck, where students paid a $1 to tape teachers to the wall. Students in one class raised $326, which won them a pizza party.

Shown here is Mrs. Groff’s kindergarten class with their carnations on Valentine’s Day.
