To the Editor:

The veterinarians and staff of the Animal Hospital of Fairview Park would like to thank all the folks who have donated food to our pet food pantry. It is so kind of them to think of and care for other pets and the people who care for them, during this pandemic. The pet food pantry has provided food for many pets and there is a continuing need for it.

Let’s compare and realize what is at risk in the November election. This is NOT a vote for Republican or Democrat. IT IS a vote for capitalism and freedom vs. socialism and a loss of liberty. A lot of people vote Democrat or Republican just because — they always have. But THIS vote is more than that.

IF you vote Democrat you will be voting to change our democracy and our way of life. That sounds extreme. But let’s put politics aside; let’s look at some HARD facts of what a socialist or government-run economy looks like.

The top rate of federal income tax is 35% in the USA, and they only start to pay that if they earn more than $398,100 in a year – compared with 40% tax in the UK if you earn more than £42,475 ($50,250 US) and 50% if you earn more than £150,000 ($177,457 US). The sales tax is 20% and gas is $6.10/gallon. NOW compare that to Germany’s top tax rate of 42% and that starts at £55,960 ($66,203 US) plus regardless of your income a mandatory 5% tax on top of your existing tax rate. Sales tax is 19% and gas cost is $6.04/gallon. Italy STARTS at 23% on income of £15,000 ($17,745 US) up to 43% income over £75,000 ($88,728 US) add a 22% sales tax and gas cost of $6.84/gallon. Lastly, Greece first starts at £20,000 ($23,661 US) 22% after that ANYTHING over £40,000 ($47,322 US) a rate of 45%. Let’s add in a sales tax of 24% and cost of gas $6.83/gallon. This does NOT include any taxes to maintain their social security systems. If you recall, the EU had to bay out Greece because of their excessive social programs. Who will bay us out???

My neighbor and I had re-election signs stolen from our front lawns last night. This act of criminal theft not only robbed me of personal property (I purchased one of the signs,) but also of my constitutional right to freedom of speech. Everyone, regardless of political party, should be outraged.

Whoever is writing the blotter section of West Life lately deserves a raise. They’re doing a great job.

Thank you for the product you all are putting out.
