The Avon Lake girls golf team posted four of the top 10 scores over nine holes to win the Southwestern Conference Preview on Aug. 9 at Springvale Golf Course in North Olmsted. Avon’s Aubrie Rush earned medalist honors after shooting a 36.
Avon’s Aubrie Rush fired a low round of 36 over nine holes at Springvale Golf Course in North Olmsted on Aug. 9, but arch rival Avon Lake took home the team victory in the Southwestern Conference girls golf Preview. Led by a personal-best round of 40 by individual runner-up Ashley Huber, the Shoregals shot a combined 168 to beat the Eagles (176). Sarah Skaggs (42) finished in a tie for third with North Ridgeville’s Aryana Edgell, while Sophia Petrus and Paige Machovina each carded a 43 to tie with Berea-Midpark’s Ella Powell for fifth. Avon’s Ainsley Gillcrist (44) finished in a tie for eighth. The Titans shot 187 to finish third in the team standings, followed by North Ridgeville (199), Olmsted Falls (203), Midview (223) and Amherst (238). Last season, the Shoregals won the SWC tournament in September, but Olmsted Falls narrowly won the league outright. The overall league championship is determined by a combination of the SWC Preview (30%), regular season matchups (30%) and the annual league tournament (40%).
