Avon senior Molly Radcliffe won state titles in the discus throw and shot put at Hilliard Darby High School in Columbus on June 4-5 during the Division I meet. Her discus victory was a first in Lorain County history.

A season of record setting throws culminated in a pair of Division I state championships for Avon senior Molly Radcliffe.

Over the course of June 4-5 at Hilliard Darby High School in Columbus, the Youngstown State commit won the title discus throw and shot put, becoming the first girl in Lorain County history to win the state discus event in the process.

Her top discus throw of 144 feet, 4 inches came on her second attempt on June 4, surpassing second-place Sydnie Smith of Bexley (131-10) by nearly 13 feet. In the shot put, she hit 46-07.5 on her first attempt, which was good enough to hold off a friendly crosstown rival in Avon Lake’s Brooke Lumpkin (45-01.75).

Radcliffe currently holds school and county records in the discus (155-0), and the school record in shot put (49-03). The week prior to state, she also swept the two events at a Division I regional meet in Amherst.
