AP10Letters

To the Editor:

This letter is about the AARP Tax Aide Program for Lorain County for the tax year 2018. Updates will follow with site information, times and class times. We are in need of volunteers to assist people in filing their federal, state and school district tax returns at our 11 sites.

Classes will start in January 2019 to help you become acquainted with the new and old tax laws. Once you take the classes you will have to pass a simple test to be certified by the IRS because this program is in conjunction with the IRS. Our classes will be held at St. Teresa's Church Hall, 1878 Abbe Road in Sheffield. The dates and times are not set stone as of this notice.

If you are not a snowbird and need something to fill the winter hours, this is a great opportunity to become involved with your fellow Lorain County residents. You learn a new skill, you get to work with volunteers who love this work and you will be helping seniors, singles and families complete their returns in an electronically and timely fashion.

Please consider becoming a part of this mutual endeavor to help Lorain County residents achieve the daunting task of preparing their tax returns. Please go on line to AARPFOUNDATION.org/taxaide or call Leeanne Wright at 440-281-8822.

To the Editor:

I appreciate last week's publication of several well-written letters to the Editor about issues related to the upcoming November election.

One of the letters, written by Mike Hellyar, provided an insightful explanation of Issue 4.

I agree with the writer's opinion to vote NO to issue 4 on the November ballot.

To the Editor:

To my fellow Avon Lake community members,

I am writing this letter with strong support for Issue 4 on the Avon Lake City ballot for Nov. 6, 2018.

This issue is for a substitute levy combining three existing levies to continue the excellent services provided by the Avon Lake City Schools. The three emergency levies have been brought to the ballot over the last 15 years. This would NOT increase taxes for existing homeowners. However, without the support the district would lose millions of dollars needed to maintain our Excellent school system!

Avon Lake City Schools only receives $1,000 per student, compared to the full amount of $6,020 provided by the State of Ohio. By combining the three existing levies our school district can have a stable local tax income, which will allow the district to maintain current staff, provide buses to the students, introduce up to date technology and sustain rigorous curriculum for the students.

I have worked over the last six years alongside the teachers, administration and other parents in the PTA. I am proud of our collaboration which has allowed us to provide great things for our schools, like a new playground, state of the art technology and extra supplies the school needed.

My husband and I have been very impressed by all of the services provided by the Avon Lake City schools. Our three children have flourished academically, as well as socially while attending Eastview Elementary. As a trained educator myself I have witnessed teachers using best practices to meet the needs of our children and their varied academic needs. In addition, the Leaps program at Redwood, where one of our sons attended as a preschooler, was a great beginning school experience. Our sixth grader at Troy continues to learn to be a great student, is challenged to think independently, and is learning to not just master information but think critically. The Avon Lake City Schools have provided support, encouragement, challenges and a path toward success!

We support Avon Lake City Schools and Issue #4 will continue the Excellence we experience today and for the future!

To the Editor:

I am commending Tony Cardillo on his 9-26 letter in which he proved that it is Democrats who are bullying those who they disagree with! I wish to expand upon Tony’s astute observations by stating that Democrats are much worse than bullies. Democrats, many of whom are still in Congress, would not impeach President Clinton when he was guilty of raping his intern and apparently many other women! Isn’t it also the Democrat party which pays money to those who kill babies?

Proof that the Democrat party is a party of bullies, one only has to consider what they have done to Judge Kavanaugh and his family. Democrats protected the rapist Clinton and under-write the killing of USA citizen babies!

I can only pray that enough voters will decide not to give any Democrats their vote since no Democrat who is on our ballot has publicly stated they are against the indiscriminate slaughter of millions of innocent American citizens in the womb. Just because abortion is "legal" does not make it correct! Hitler made killing Jews "legal" and slavery was also "legal" until the Republican President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.

Most religions understand there is a scale to sin. You may not like President Trump but nothing he has done is as vile, heinous or evil as the intrinsically evil the Democrat Party condones - rape and murder.

Time to remove Jim Jordan

Sometime ago, I was dismayed to learn that Jim Jordan is our congressman. His representation is due to extreme gerrymandering in our county.

Jim Jordan’s continued conduct in discrediting and undermining the independence of the Justice Department and the FBI is not only shameful, but frankly un-American. Jordan continues to push a “deep state” conspiracy to further divide this country. I have had enough of politicians who are divisive. As one of his constituents, I am embarrassed by his representation. We deserve better.

This is why my family and friends are fully supporting Janet Garrett.

To the Editor:

With all the lies, deceit and debasing of human dignity occurring in Washington this week, I submit the following prayer for America:

“Most Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land to the glory of your Son.

Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your Motherly protection.

Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life.

Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the true source of our cherished right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the cult of death and the strength to build a new cult of life. Amen.”

I encourage everyone to read “America’s Hidden History” by Kenneth C. Davis
