LADIES OF THE DANCE: The Magnificat High School Dance Team won a Grand Championship award on Jan. 15 at the AmeriDance Winter Wonderland Championship. This is the second championship for the squad this year.

The JV team placed first in hip-hop, jazz and lyrical, while the varsity won first place in jazz and lyrical, and second place in hip-hop.

Junior soloists Aurora Grenig and Paige St. John placed first and second, respectively, and senior soloists Magan Krysh and Lia Mazzarrella also took home first and second place honors, respectively.

The squad won the High Point Award for its varsity jazz and lyrical routines. The varsity jazz routine also won the highest number of points in all divisions.

The showing earned the teams a bid to AmeriDance InterNationals in Orlando, Fla., which they will use next year.

FIRST COMMUNION OPEN HOUSE: Embellish, 19051 Lake Road, will host a First Communion Open House on Feb. 3 from 3-7 p.m. and Feb. 4 from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. The event will be a one-stop shop for family First Communion services. Besides Embellish, Wild Flour Bakery, Paper Trails, Pauline Lewis Photography and Vivienne B. will participate. TAX HELP: Free income tax assistance for those age 60 and up will be offered at the Rocky River Senior Center starting Feb. 6. Trained volunteers from the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will be available to prepare tax returns for seniors using forms 1040EZ, 1040A and basic 1040. CARD PARTY: The Harbor Court independent and assisted living facility will host a card party on Monday, March 13, from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The $6 fee includes lunch and a raffle for gas gift cards. FAMILY DANCE FOR EL SALVADOR: The St. Christopher El Salvador Mission Group will sponsor a family dance from 6 to 9 p.m. in the church parish center on Feb. 4.
