To the Editor:
Once again, Fairview Park Summerfest has come to a close. It was a hot, but beautiful weekend for this popular three-day event, which has been a staple of the community since 1992. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who made this weekend such a success. This was truly a collaborative effort and many individuals and groups deserve recognition for their hard work, dedication and support.
My biggest thanks go out to the outstanding Summerfest Committee and its leader, Kathy Yarian. Over the last year, this enthusiastic group of volunteers spent countless hours planning and facilitating this fun-filled and family-oriented festival for the enjoyment of all. Summerfest would not be possible without the devotion of these individuals!
I would like to thank the American Legion Post 738 for leading our parade and hoisting the American flag at the invocation. This organization’s tireless dedication to our country, our flag and the city of Fairview Park is inspiring to all.
Many thanks to the organizations and businesses that spent their weekend at Summerfest to educate, entertain, or feed the thousands of festival attendees. This event is designed to encourage collaboration and companionship among residents, businesses and civic organizations, and your participation is what makes this possible.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank the many residents and community members who attended Summerfest. Your participation and excitement is what makes this festival a success year after year!
As we begin to plan for Summerfest in 2019, I would like to invite you to join the Summerfest Committee. The involvement of our residents and their new ideas is what keeps this tradition alive in this beautiful community.

A manager at a restaurant in Canada refused service to a person wearing a MAGA hat. He said that he felt the hat signified “racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, (and) homophobia.”
He was, thankfully, fired.
Wanting sovereignty is not hateful. Mexico has strong immigration laws. Canada has strong immigration laws. If those coming from Honduras, Ecuador or Venezuela decided to not go that last mile, believe me, Mexico would jail or deport them in a heartbeat. Canada also has its own limits, and enforces them. The current Immigration Laws (and limitations) were actually written by Ted Kennedy. They are liberal in welcoming diverse members of the world community.
Our religious leaders who are encouraging those that are easily confused that it is being the Great Samaritan (not just Good but Great), are deceiving you. They are Fagen, teaching the Oliver Twists to be pickpockets and public square thieves. The Good Samaritan cared for the injured man on the road right there in his own country. He was not taken to Samaria, adopted, or supported by the Samaritan government. Tell our religious leaders to go and make whole the countries of origin. If they are to be SJW’s than please, organize there so they too can have a safe and prosperous life. And if they still choose to become Americans, welcome.
We are not the Nazi’s, White Supremacists, -ism’s that you declare. That is the lie that demonizes the truth. We are resistant to the suicide of a great nation that continued, even when losing manufacturing jobs and drowning in debt, to be the economic engine and inspiration of the world. And that is all. We are welcoming to all to join prosperity, liberty, and live among us, through our ports, laws, and processes.

I would like to let everyone know that the next Bay Band Concert will be Sunday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at the Cahoon Park gazebo. It will be my favorite concert of the year, their Patriotic Celebration. For anyone who hasn’t previously attended a concert by our 40-year-old band, I would bet that you will be back again after attending this concert. Performances are free. Treat yourself to this. Bring your parents and kids!
