Great Lakes Conference

It was a hard-fought battle Saturday night at Rocky River High School, as the Bay Rockets played the Rocky River Pirates for the inaugural Great Lakes Conference title. The game ended with a 0-0 tie, which propelled the Rockets to the conference championship.

Bay went 10-3-2 overall so far this season, and was undefeated (5-0-1) in the GLC, while Rocky River was 10-3-1 overall, but had a conference record of 4-1-1 with the lone GLC loss coming from the game against Normandy.

The Rockets have been led this season on offense by Mitch Matakovich, who has tallied 10 goals and 13 assists, for 33 points, followed by Jacob Sooy (nine goals, eight assists) and Bracken Ryan (nine goals, three assists).

Goalkeeper Matt Kore has tallied 39 saves so far this season.

The Rockets will finish off the 2015 regular season on Saturday at Westlake. The game will be played at Lee Burneson Middle School’s Reed Field, with the start scheduled for 7 p.m.
